What is encryption? Back To Questions
Encryption is scrambling or replacing the characters of a note with other characters. For example, the note "My password is superpassword" could be encrypted as "ke93lkf90lkfgj9aek3tyih67e" which is much less readable than the original note.
Encrypting your private messages keeps other people from looking at the data files and seeing your notes. You can also require a password to start the Notes & Reminders program which gives you additional security. But the data files can be opened or viewed in other programs. Unless you encrypt your notes, other people will be able to see them.
What if I forget my program password? Back To Questions
When you are asked for your password to start the program there is a ? button next to the Cancel button. When you select this button a window will appear with a text key to unlock the password. Email that text key to Simple Joe and we will return to you the password.
Why cant I use subtypes? Back To Questions
If the subtype boxes are grey and not available, the Subtypes setting is not checked. Go to the Settings window and check the Subtypes box.
When subtypes are turned off, subtype information for each note still exists and may be viewed by selecting a note, but subtype values may not be filtered on (in the list) or selected as report criteria. Subtype values will not be shown in the notes list and subtype values cannot be added to new notes. Turning subtypes back on will allow you to enter subtype values and use the subtype for filtering and printing.
How can I print just one note? Back To Questions
Add a special, unique keyword to the note you would like to print. No other note should have that keyword. Then enter that keyword as a criteria when printing a list of notes. Only the note you selected should be printed.
My note is not in the list. Where is it? Back To Questions
You may have the list filtered for a note type, subtype, date range, or keyword. Select the Clear button at the top of the window next to the list filter criteria boxes. This will make all notes appear in the list.
How do I get my name on the reports? Back To Questions
Select the Settings/Tools button from the Menu window and enter your name in the box labeled Your Name.
How can I move my data files to another directory? Back To Questions
Use the Move Data Files tool located in the Settings & Tools window.
How can I move or copy my data files onto another computer? Back To Questions
After Notes & Reminders is installed on the new comptuer, copy your data files to a floppy disk or through the network to your new computer and into the program folder ("C:\Program Files\notes-reminders" by default).
To determine where your data files are located and where the program files are located click on the product logo in the Menu window. This will open the About window, which shows you the version date of the program as well as it's location and the location of your data files.
To move your data files you will need to move all of the files with a "CDX", "DBF", or "FPT" extension to your new location. (If you cannot see the file extensions (e.g., FILE.EXT), in Explorer, select View | Folder Options | View tab, and uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option; about the 8th line in the box.)
If you want to keep your data files in a location other than the program folder (notes-reminders), first place them in the program folder and then run Notes & Reminders and use the Move Data Files tool in the Settings & Tools window. This way Notes & Reminders will know where to find them.
Can I install this program on my desktop and laptop computer? Back To Questions
Yes! Simple Joe's Software Use Agreement allows you to use the software on more than one computer so long as you are the only user of the software on each computer. We don't squeeze you for extra licensing fees by limiting software use to one "user" or one "computer." See the Software Use Agreement for more information about who can use the software and how it may be installed.
So if you have a desktop and a laptop, feel free to install Simple Joe software on both machines. Just remember the data files are separate and the data in them may be different on each machine.
Something strange is happening. Can I reinstall this program without losing my data files? Back To Questions
Yes. The installation routine checks for current data files and will not overwrite them if they already exist. To reinstall completely, either run the Uninstall program from your Start menu or delete all the files in the program folder ("C:\Program Files\notes-reminders" by default).
