Settings & Tools
Several settings and tools are available to customize Simple Joe's Money Tools and perform other functions.
When you select the Settings/Tools button from the Main Window the following window appears:
Data File Tools
The first page is labeled "Program (none)" and is disabled. The main settings and tools for Money Tools deal with the data files.
The second page of the Settings window is labeled "Data Files". These tools help you manage your data files. Money Tools stores your data in one or more separate data files. You can manipulate these files as a group using these tools:
A Check Data Files button allows you to check your data files. If you start getting errors as you are entering your debts or printing reports, use the Check Data Files button to validate and correct any data file errors.
The Move Data Files button will help you move the data files to another location on your hard drive. This is helpful if you like to store your data files in your My Documents folder or another location that you regularly backup.
When you select this button, you will be asked to pick a folder into which the files will be moved. The folder must already exist when before you move the files.
The Copy Data Files button will help you copy the data files to another location on your hard drive or on a floppy or removable disk. This is helpful when making backup copies of your data files. You can reinstall the software and then copy your backed up data files to restore the program as it was at the time of your last backup.
Backup
The third page of the Settings window is labeled "Backup". These tools help you backup or restore your data files.
Money Tools can automatically backup your data files each time you leave the program. By default, this happens each time you leave the program. Alternatively you can select to backup data files every third time you exit the program or not at all.
You can change the location of your backup files using the first tool. Select the button and point to the location you would like your files to be backed up to. We recommend that you select a location that is itself backed-up frequently.
The other buttons allow you to Backup Now, Restore From Backup Location, or Restore From Alternate Location. If you have made significant changes and you want to reverse them, you can restore from your backup data files and effectively undo all the changes you have made since you started using the program for that session. Remember that unless you change the setting below, each time the program is exited, it will backup your data files as they currently are and overwrite the previously backed up files.
Use the Restore From Backup Location button to restore the data files from the current backup location (see above). Use the Restore From Alternate Location button to restore the data files from an alternate location (such as a 3.5" floppy disk, network location, etc.).
You can also use the Copy Data Files button to copy your data files onto a floppy disk or to a network location and then restore them using the Restore From Alternate Location button. This is an ideal way to transfer data files from one computer to another when upgrading.
Use the Automatic Backup setting to determine how frequently the data files are backed up.
