How do I enter more digits after I have erased my previous entry? Back To Questions
If you have made an error in entering a number (e.g. 500.00 instead of 5000.00), you will need to backspace over the 500.00 and then press the backspace key once more to indicate that you will be typing in an additional number. This is usually only necessary after you have entered a number that is incorrect and too small and wish to enter a larger number.
There is a limit to how many digits you can enter into a box but the limit is very liberal and you should have more than enough digits available for your needs.
How do I delete debt lines, investment lines or budget lines if I am not using them? Back To Questions
When a debt, investment or budget line is filled in, a new line is added so that you always have a blank line in the list to enter more information. If you want to delete lines just blank out the values for the line. Blank lines will not print on reports even though they show up in the list.
How do I calculate the appreciation on my home or other asset? Back To Questions
Use the "Calculate An Investment" tool to compute the "Compound Interest" on your home or valuable. You will need to estimate the average yearly appreciation for the item which will be the APR or interest. Enter the current value of the item, the APR or average yearly appreciation and the number of years to project the appreciation. Remember that this is just an estimate. The actual annual appreciation rates may vary.
How do I calculate depreciation on an asset? Back To Questions
Use the "Adjust For Inflation" tool to calculate the value in today's dollars of an item after a number of years. You will need to estimate the average yearly depreciation for the item which will be entered as the inflation rate. Enter the value of the item, the inflation rate or average yearly depreciation rate and the number of years to project the depreciation. Remember that this is just an estimate. The actual annual depreciation may vary.
How do I determine my home equity? Back To Questions
To calculate the amount of equity you have in your home, subtract the amount you owe on your mortgage and any other home
equity loans from the assessed or market value of your home. Use the "Pay Off My Mortgage" tool to determine the amount you still owe on your home.
How do I figure out how the maximum price of a car I can buy if I know the finance APR and the monthly payment I can afford? Back To Questions
You can determine an affordable price of a car or any other item if you know the finance interest rate and the monthly payment you can afford. Use the "Calculate Loan Payments" tool. Enter an amount such as $5000 and the interest rate. Then observe the monthly payment amount. If it is above your desired payment amount, lower the $5000 to $4000, or raise the amount until the payment is in your desired range.
Alternatively, you can use the lower portion of the "Purchase A Home" tool. Enter the monthly amount you can afford, 0% for taxes and insurance, $0 for down payment and the interest rate. The purchase price you can afford will be calculated. Also you can see what prices you can afford at various interest rates by entering the APR from, to and increment amounts. See the "Purchase A Home" tool help for more information.
How can I move my data files to another directory? Back To Questions
Use the Move Data Files tool located in the Settings & Tools window.
How can I move or copy my data files onto another computer? Back To Questions
After Money Tools is installed on the new comptuer, copy your data files to a floppy disk or through the network to your new computer and into the program folder ("C:\Program Files\MoneyTools" by default).
To determine where your data files are located and where the program files are located click on the product logo in the Menu window. This will open the About window, which shows you the version date of the program as well as its location and the location of your data files.
To move your data files you will need to move all of the files with a "CDX", "DBF", or "FPT" extension to your new location. (If you cannot see the file extensions (e.g., FILE.EXT), in Explorer, select View | Folder Options | View tab, and uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option; about the 8th line in the box.)
If you want to keep your data files in a location other than the program folder (MoneyTools), first place them in the program folder and then run Money Tools and use the Move Data Files tool in the Settings & Tools window. This way Money Tools will know where to find them.
Can I install this program on my desktop and laptop computer? Back To Questions
Yes! Simple Joe's ../softwareagreement.htm allows you to use the software on more than one computer so long as you are the only user of the software on each computer. We don't squeeze you for extra licensing fees by limiting software use to one "user" or one "computer." See the ../softwareagreement.htm for more information about who can use the software and how it may be installed.
So if you have a desktop and a laptop, feel free to install Simple Joe software on both machines. Just remember the data files are separate and the data in them may be different on each machine.
Something strange is happening. Can I reinstall this program without losing my data files? Back To Questions
Yes. The installation routine checks for current data files and will not overwrite them if they already exist. To reinstall completely, either run the Uninstall program from your Start menu or delete all the files in the program folder ("C:\Program Files\MoneyTools" by default).
