How can I add regular or recurring events? Back To Questions
A recurring event is one that occurs on a regular basis, like a club meeting, business meeting or weekly deadline. Recurring events may occur daily, weekly, or on a day of the month (15th, 30th, 1st Tuesday, 3rd Thursday, etc.).
Event Tracker has a special tool for creating recurring events. From the Menu window, select the Recurring Events button and enter the frequency of your event along with the normal event information. (See Recurring Events window.)
How can I show a warning about an upcoming event? Back To Questions
For each event (and recurring events) you can select the number of days ahead of the event for the event to start showing up on the printed events lists. For example if you want a 30 day warning that your taxes are due April 15th, you would create an event named "Uncle Sam's Payday" with a date of April 15th. Then set the Notify Lead Days value to 30.
When event lists are printed, starting on March 16th you will see the "Uncle Sam's Payday" event listed in a special section at the top of the report titled "Advance Notice."
How do I delete a recurring event? Back To Questions
A recurring event may be deleted as any other event. However, because it is a recurring event, you will be asked if you want to delete all other similar recurring events. If you answer "Yes," all of the similarly named recurring events will also be deleted. (Selecting "No" will only delete the currently selected event, "Cancel" will cancel the deletion process.)
This is useful, for example, if you have set up a weekly meeting on Tuesdays. If you set up the meeting for the whole year you will have up to 52 meeting events entered. If the meeting is changed to Wednesdays, you can easily delete the Tuedsay meeting and recreate the recurring event for Wednesday. This is much simpler than switching the event day to Wednesday for each of the 52 events.
Note: When deleting a recurring event and you select "Yes" to delete all similar events, all recurring events created at the time the selected event was created will be deleted regardless of any changes to the event (date, time, name, etc.).
How do I delete old events? Back To Questions
It's a good idea to delete old events after the information is no longer needed. This keeps your data files small, saves room on your disk drive, and keeps the program operating quickly.
To delete old events, use the Purge (delete)... tool in the Settings & Tools window. Just enter in the date up to which you would like old events to be deleted, then select the Purge button.
Advance notification events are showing up too early. Why? Back To Questions
If you have an event set for an advanced notification of 5 days and the event will not occur for 10 days, the event will show up on the printed event list if the One Full Page check box in the Print Lists window is checked. When this box is checked the computer is instructed to print an event list with enough events to fill up an entire page.
How can I move my data files to another directory? Back To Questions
Use the Move Data Files tool located in the Settings & Tools window.
How can I move or copy my data files onto another computer? Back To Questions
After Event Tracker is installed on the new comptuer, copy your data files to a floppy disk or through the network to your new computer and into the program folder ("C:\Program Files\event-tracker" by default).
To determine where your data files are located and where the program files are located click on the product logo in the Menu window. This will open the About window, which shows you the version date of the program as well as it's location and the location of your data files.
To move your data files you will need to move all of the files with a "CDX", "DBF", or "FPT" extension to your new location. (If you cannot see the file extensions (e.g., FILE.EXT), in Explorer, select View | Folder Options | View tab, and uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option; about the 8th line in the box.)
If you want to keep your data files in a location other than the program folder (event-tracker), first place them in the program folder and then run Event Tracker and use the Move Data Files tool in the Settings & Tools window. This way Event Tracker will know where to find them.
Can I install this program on my desktop and laptop computer? Back To Questions
Yes! Simple Joe's Software Use Agreement allows you to use the software on more than one computer so long as you are the only user of the software on each computer. We don't squeeze you for extra licensing fees by limiting software use to one "user" or one "computer." See the Software Use Agreement for more information about who can use the software and how it may be installed.
So if you have a desktop and a laptop, feel free to install Simple Joe software on both machines. Just remember the data files are separate and the data in them may be different on each machine.
Something strange is happening. Can I reinstall this program without losing my data files? Back To Questions
Yes. The installation routine checks for current data files and will not overwrite them if they already exist. To reinstall completely, either run the Uninstall program from your Start menu or delete all the files in the program folder ("C:\Program Files\event-tracker" by default).
