Our Company
Simple Joe is a marketing company that promotes the Simple Joe software brand and the philosophy of simple, affordable quality software. Simple Joe's web site is www.simplejoe.com.
Simple Joe markets simple to use and affordable software products created to Simple Joe specifications. The Simple Joe product focuses on a single, specific situation, problem or opportunity and enables an ordinary person to quickly accomplish their task.
Simple Joe's mission is to market simple to use and affordable software products that enable ordinary people to increase their productivity and quickly accomplish everyday tasks.
Our Market
Simple Joe has products that appeal to the novice computer user as well as experienced, technical users. Most people want simple ways to accomplish their work. Simple Joe provides simple software to accomplish these tasks.
Simple Joe appeals to technical users. Many of the Simple Joe products were conceived and designed by highly technical computer users. The goal was to simplify tasks that most software applications have overly complicated because of the bloat of seldom-used features and the resulting navigational problems.
Simple Joe is highly appealing to non-technical users because of the software's simple interface and user-friendly design. Each product shares a similar simple interface and care has been taken to ensure that the products are free of technical jargon and terminology.
Our Products
Customers can install and begin using the software, not just learning it, in literally 10 minutes. Our manuals and help systems are small compared to those of our competitors because we do not have to describe all the 100's of miscellaneous functions. Nor do we have to instruct our customers on how the use the software's interface. With Simple Joe products what you see is what you get.
By keeping the software simple, Simple Joe's products are designed and developed more rapidly. This allows more time for testing. Also, the reduced size of the programs insures that all aspects of the software can be thoroughly tested. This leads to a higher quality of software and avoids the bugs and errors found in larger software programs. We don't need to test our software by releasing it as a finished product and "see[ing] what happens."
Our Concerns
There are two basic problems with the majority of software sold today.
The first is complexity. Software becomes more and more complicated to use with each new version.
The majority of computer users today are non-technical people who use the computer to increase their productivity. Yet many of them have been dumped onto an upgrade treadmill. Every other year the major software vendors come out with a "new and improved" version of their software with even more features and functionality.
Most users were satisfied with what their software could do for them years ago; somewhere around version 3. Now (the age of versions 6-13), numerous features are overshadowing the usefulness of the software. The simple functions and features that were the bread-and-butter of the program are now buried in a jungle of menu options and confusing software interface widgets.
It's time to get back to software that truly increases a person's productivity, not just their time on the computer. People need software that doesn't take a video, a training class, an 800 page manual or a series of "Dummies" books to learn and use. Software should install quickly, be intuitive and have just the features needed to accomplish the primary purpose of the software.
Simpler software would reduce the time a person needs to learn how to use the software, which would increase the customer's satisfaction with the product. Simple software would also benefit the business community by reducing training costs, operating costs and the repeated cycle of upgrades.
The second problem found in a lot of software products is the proliferation of technical jargon and the need for specialized skills to operate the software.
A primary example of this second problem can be found in accounting software. Many consumer oriented accounting programs started out as simple check registers. In the past years they have grown to be mini-professional accounting systems. Complete with sophisticated accounting functions and the use of proper accounting terminology.
While this is appropriate for the seasoned CPA, the average "Joe" is lost in a maze of complex accounting functions and jargon.
Most consumers purchase software to perform simple repetitive tasks using the computer. When they purchase a large, complex accounting system they soon give up after trying just to get the program set up for use (which often takes over two hours). Some even quit half-way through the set up phase when they continue to encounter terms and concepts they are not familiar with.
Simple Joe's focus on simple software provides consumers with the quick and easy, single task software that they really wanted in the first place. Sure it's nice to be able to calculate multiple variances of depreciation tables, but if you have no idea what that is, it just gets in your way.
